Roof repair and leak repair in Texarkana
Bohon Roofing is a family-owned Texarkana roofing contractor that repairs leaks, wind-lifted shingles, cracked vent boots, and loose flashing on homes and businesses in Texas and Arkansas. Every repair starts with a free drone inspection so you see the photos we see, and if a repair is all your roof needs, that is what we quote.
What a repair can fix, and what it can't
Most of what goes wrong with a roof is local: a cracked vent boot, flashing pulled loose where the roof meets a wall, shingles creased along one edge by wind, a limb through the decking in one spot. A repair is the right call when the rest of the roof is sound.
It stops being the right call when the problem is the roof itself: shingles brittle across whole slopes, granules gone so the mat shows through, soft decking, or leaks that move every time it rains. What we repair most here:
- Plumbing vent boots, where the rubber collar cracks
- Flashing pulled loose at chimneys, walls, and roof-to-wall joints
- Shingles lifted, creased, or blown off along ridges and edges
- Valleys, where two slopes send water down one seam
- Limbs that crack shingles or break the decking
- Worn ridge caps and damaged vents
Finding the leak first
Water rarely comes through the ceiling right below the spot where it got in. It runs along the decking and down a rafter before it finds a place to drop, so the stain in your living room can start several feet uphill.
So we look at the whole roof and the attic, not just the slope above the stain, and photograph what we find.
What a repair visit looks like
The inspection and the written estimate are free, with no obligation. The estimate says what we would repair and what we would leave alone, and if it needs replacing instead, it says so and why.
On the repair, the crew hand-nails every shingle it sets. Nails driven too deep, crooked, or missing the nailing strip are a common reason shingles lift in the next hard wind. Afterward we sweep the yard for nails and walk it with you.
When water is coming in now
Call (903) 838-8430 and tell us what is happening. When water is getting in, the first job is to stop it: we tarp the opening so the damage inside does not keep adding up, then come back for the permanent repair.
Our office is open weekdays from 8 to 5, and we set up weekend visits by appointment. One homeowner wrote in her Google review that her insurance agent recommended Bohon Roofing after high winds, and a repairman came the same day.
Repair or replace?
A repair buys years when the damage is limited and the roof under it is healthy. When the shingles are brittle, the leaks keep moving, or damage covers a large share of the roof, another patch is money spent twice. Our roof replacement page covers what a full tear-off involves.
Either way you see the photos and you decide. One review says Robbie looked a roof over and told the homeowner he could not in good conscience say she needed a new one.
Repairs and your insurance
Wind, hail, and fallen limbs are often covered by a homeowner's policy. If your repair might be a claim, we photograph the damage so you have a dated record, and we can meet the adjuster at the house. Ted Turner, a Texarkana native with 22 years in roofing, handles our estimates and walks homeowners through the claim. Our insurance claim page covers what a roofer may and may not do in Texas and Arkansas.
Permits on a roof repair here
The City of Texarkana, Texas requires a permit for roof repairs as well as for new roofs, and contractors have to register with the city before they can apply. Permits go through the city's Inspections and Code Enforcement office at 220 Texas Boulevard. On the Arkansas side, and in Nash, Wake Village, and Hooks, each city runs its own permits.
Good questions
Straight answers
How much does a roof repair cost in Texarkana?
It depends on what is wrong, how much of the roof is involved, and whether the decking is damaged. The inspection and the written estimate are free, so you get a real number before you decide.
Can you repair just part of a roof?
Yes, when the rest of the roof is in good shape. New shingles rarely match a weathered roof exactly, so on a slope you can see from the street we talk through how it will look first.
My roof is leaking right now. What should I do?
Put something under it and call (903) 838-8430. Stay off the roof: wet shingles are slick and damaged decking may not hold you. We tarp it to stop the water, then come back for the permanent repair.
Is a small leak worth fixing right away?
Yes. A slow leak soaks decking and insulation long before it shows on the ceiling, and wet decking turns a shingle repair into a decking repair.
Do I need a permit to repair a roof in Texarkana, Texas?
Yes. The city requires permits for roof repairs as well as new roofs, and only registered contractors can apply. Nash, Wake Village, Hooks, and Texarkana, Arkansas each run their own permits.
