Roofing in Ashdown, Arkansas
Ashdown is straight up U.S. 71 from Texarkana, about 21 miles and half an hour from our office. We give a roof in Ashdown the same care as one down the street from us.
About Ashdown
Ashdown started out as Turkey Flats, then Keller. Judge Lawrence Alexander Byrne ran a sawmill there, and after it burned he said the mill had burned down to ashes and the town would be called Ashdown. It was incorporated under that name on June 11, 1892.
Railroads brought the town its early growth, and an election in 1906 moved the Little River County seat from Foreman to Ashdown. The courthouse went up in 1907 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Millwood Lake came along in 1966, and the paper mill that Domtar runs today was built in 1968. Timber is still the town's biggest industry.
Storms in Little River County
Ashdown sits between the Little River and the Red River, and storms hit the county often. From 2016 through 2025, the NOAA Storm Events Database logged 18 hail reports, 36 damaging thunderstorm wind reports, and 4 tornadoes in Little River County.
The biggest hail in that stretch was 2.75 inches near Winthrop on June 13, 2023. The same storm dropped 1 inch hail in Ashdown. Ashdown got 1 inch hail again on April 26, 2025. In October 2014, the National Weather Service confirmed an EF2 tornado in the Ashdown area, with winds estimated at 120 to 130 mph.
Hail that size can bruise shingles and knock granules loose without leaving a hole you can see from the yard. That is why we fly a drone over every slope and show you the photos.
Permits in Ashdown
Ashdown runs its own permits through the city's Office of Code Enforcement. The city says that office handles permitting requests, including major repair and remodeling permits. For questions about a permit at your address, call Code Enforcement at (870) 898-4312.

Hiring a roofer in Arkansas
The Arkansas Attorney General says any contractor on a home job costing more than $2,000 has to be bonded and licensed by the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board. Bohon Roofing holds Arkansas contractor license #56621, listed with the board for roofing, roof decks, and roofing sheet metal. You can look us up on the board's site before you sign anything.
Arkansas also protects you on insurance jobs. If your insurer tells you in writing that all or part of your claim isn't covered, you can cancel the repair contract within three business days. Your money comes back within ten business days, except for emergency work already done. That rule is Arkansas Code 4-88-903.
