Roofing in New Boston, Texas
New Boston sits west of Texarkana, about 21 miles from our office by road, most of it on I-30. We treat a roof in New Boston the same as one down the street from us.
About New Boston
New Boston started in 1876, when the railroad came through about four miles north of the older town of Boston. Lots were laid out and sold that September, and the new town took its name from the people who moved up from Boston. A post office opened in 1877.
The town grew fast during World War II, when the Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant and the Red River Army Depot were built just southeast of it. The population went from 1,111 in 1940 to 2,688 in 1950. Bowie County dedicated a new courthouse in New Boston in 1986. The 2020 count was 4,579 people.
Getting there from our office
From our office at 9007 N. Kings Highway in Texarkana, the drive is about 21 miles and takes around 25 minutes. You head out Kings Highway to I-30, go west, and take U.S. 82 into town. New Boston is in Bowie County, which is part of our regular service area.
Permits in New Boston
New Boston handles its own building permits, separate from Texarkana and from Bowie County. City Hall is at 301 E. North Front Street, and the phone number is (903) 628-5596. The city's Code Enforcement page at nbcity.org/page/code-enforcement posts the building permit fee schedule, the inspection fee schedule, and a link to the city ordinances.
Permit fees in New Boston are set by the value of the job. A bigger job means a bigger fee, so the written estimate matters here too. If you are not sure whether your project needs a permit, call City Hall before work starts.
Storms around New Boston
NOAA's Storm Events Database lists 48 hail reports and 83 thunderstorm wind events in Bowie County, Texas in the ten years through 2025. Thirty of the hail reports were quarter size or bigger, and 34 of the 48 came in April, May, or June.
New Boston has been in the path more than once. On the evening of May 24, 2024, the National Weather Service in Shreveport issued a tornado emergency for New Boston. The survey later found an EF1 tornado just north of town along Daniels Chapel Road, with winds near 93 mph. On March 4, 2025, another EF1 tornado tracked nearly 19 miles across Bowie County and lifted in the southern part of New Boston, and the same storms damaged several structures in town.
After a storm like that, a roof can look fine from the yard and still have lifted or creased shingles. A close look with a drone is the quickest way to know.
Choosing a roofer
Texas does not issue a state license for reroofing contractors, so the checking falls to you. Look for a local address, read reviews, and get a written estimate that spells out tear-off, materials, and cleanup. Bohon Roofing has been in Texarkana since 1980, carries surety bonds in Texas, and is a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating.
